L ND N

Jens Masmann

EUR 37.00EUR 39.00

L ND N is about the traces of urban utopias from former decades in the city of London. Where old patterns of usage fail or are destroyed, undefined gaps come into existence, spaces of abstraction.

The urban structures and patterns are formal and physical, as well as intellectual and conceptual, aiming to improve life in this social scale called megacity.

But people accepting given urban patterns and structures are the exception, not the rule. The interesting point is, whether their interaction with the urban environment is creative or destructive. So people will either reinvent or destroy older urban structures.

The book tries to depict the different layers of urban structure left by former generations, and to probe, what happened on the way from utopia to reality. The layout structure of L ND N resembles the urban construct, working with layers, staggered arrangement and collocation.
