It is the fourth time doc! photo magazine has the pleasure to be a media patron of the Opole Festival of Photography whose the fifth edition starts on Friday. This time its watchword is the Sources. As the exhibition, collected by the organisers, indicate (see the detailed programme of the festival below), the watchword cannot be taken literally. It is rather a loosely outlined problem that can be found in various forms in the pictures of this year’s exhibitions. How will the visitors cope with this task? We will find out soon!
Our presence in Opole will be particularly visible this year. Not only does one of the two opening exhibitions the festival presents the winners of the second edition of DEBUTS, but Mariola Jabłońska and Olga Świątecka – both on our last year’s list of the most promising emerging Polish photographers – will present their own cycles. Do not forget about the meeting with our chief and art director that will take place on the opening day of the this year’s OFF. So – let’s go to Opole!

It all started from sandwiches for friends and desire to astonish them with their flavour. Then there was a question about their two or three favourite products and a trip to a proven market to get those of the highest quality. That is how The Byk started – Dagmara Radzikowska’s blog documenting all stages of making sandwiches for friends. Dozens of sandwiches.
“Since the beginning, when making a sandwich for a particular person, I was thinking of colours and composition. The cottage cheese was just a white spot, while the chives – simply green stripes” – says Dagmara Radzikowska, the author of the photographs, which will be shown in Warsaw’s GWL Gallery.
The exhibition is a natural continuation of The Byk project, which has attracted masses of enthusiasts among epicures of life, good food and art photography. It is the first individual exhibition of culinary photography combined with tasting of personalised sandwiches, from which this artistic project started.
Dagmara Radzikowska – based in Warsaw (Poland) | stylist connected with fashion for 16 years | cooperated with most important fashion magazines in Poland like Viva, Gala, Elle, Twoj Styl, Glamour and Cosmopolitan | involved in advertising campaigns of such companies as Coca-Cola, Atlantic, Franco Feruzzi, Portofino, Avon or Apartament | cooperates with the online magazine VUMAG | author of the culinary blog The Byk for which invented, stylised and photographed sandwiches on her own | as a photographer and food-stylist cooperates with such titles as Twoj Styl, Kukbuk and La Vie Magazine.

Arrival and departure, the beginning and the end. Time is experienced in a particular way when you’re staying at a hotel. Viewed from this perspective, the andel’s Hotel Lodz is a unique place where the past is always visible in the present. The structure and elements of the former Izrael Poznański’s factory have determined the hotel’s present form and influenced its future development. The exhibition We Have Time is a reflection on the meaning of time. The works presented here relate to this concept in various ways. It’s also possible to find in each of them the„threads” that link them with the exhibition site.
The show consists of two parts: the public – displayed in the lobby, and the private – presented in the hotel’s suites. The first one consists of Karolina Breguła’sThe Histories of Art and Rafał Milach’s (doc! #19) Very Beautiful Project series of photographs. The second part of the exhibition is more personal and features Monika Drożyńska’s Half of a Whole and Urban Embroidery 3 series as well as Joanna Piotrowska’s Frowst series and pictures from her untitled project.
The exhibition is accompanied by an album additionally including a short story Ravens Live the Longest by Filip Zawada.
