The Jacob Aue Sobol exhibition With and Without You is a m mid-career retrospective spanning projects done in Siberia, Guatemala, Greenland, Tokyo, Thailand, America, and his hometown – Copenhagen. The exhibition is a comprehensive showcase of Aue Sobol’s unique, visceral brand of black-and-white photography.

Jacob Aue Sobol records bracingly intimate encounters with people: from his then-girlfriend Sabine in East Greenland to passersby in the alleyways of Shibuya. With and Without You mixes this personal documentary work with virtuosic street photography and is connected with his book of the same title published in 2016. These are pictures not to be thought about, but felt.

Aue Sobol announced his farewell to photography in July this year working now as a fisherman on a remote Danish island. “This is my way to close an old chapter of my life, and start a new one,” – says Aue Sobol. – “It was never about photography.”
